About Guitars For Veterans

“THERE IS CLEAR EVIDENCE THAT PLAYING THE GUITAR HELPS THE HEALING PROCESS FOR VETERANS STRUGGLING WITH PHYSICAL INJURIES, PTSD AND OTHER EMOTIONAL DISTRESS.”

Music helps decrease anxiety, increase selfesteem, and reduce episodes of panic attacks, nightmares and flashbacks. A research study in the USA of Guitars 4 Vets students showed a 21% improvement in PTSD symptoms and a 27% decrease in related depression symptoms. The study attributed learning and playing guitar as the primary catalysts for these improvements—and we want to ensure as many vets as possible have that opportunity. More simply, playing a guitar can help veterans safely connect with their surroundings and other people.

Veterans shouldn’t have to face the challenges of PTSD in silence or alone. Through the teamwork and camaraderie of Guitars for Vets, they can join a community where they learn to play guitar and nd solace in the songs they love
as well as the songs they have yet to write.

Far too many of our Military Veterans are afflicted with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). But many are finding hope in an unlikely place: behind the wood and strings of an acoustic guitar. The healing power of music therapy helps soldiers cope. That’s why we provide Veterans with guitars and a forum to learn how to play. As a veteran, family member or as a volunteer, we can’t do it without your help. Please read on to learn more about the program and how we can help those who served rediscover their joy through the power of music.
